Abstract

The Okutanga Project emerges as a highly relevant initiative, conceived by Mr. Gonzálvez Cassoma, promoter of the Instituto Superior Politécnico Ndunduma (ISPN). Aligned with a humanistic vision and focused on promoting human dignity through education, the project aims at the literacy of zungueira women in the city of Cuito, in the province of Bié, Angola. These women, who work in the informal trade sector, frequently face socio-economic and cultural barriers that limit their access to formal education, resulting in significant exclusion from the educational system and, consequently, from opportunities to improve their living conditions.

This study seeks to analyze the impact of this project, emphasizing its importance for the social and economic inclusion of these women. Through a qualitative approach, with semi-structured interviews and participant observation, the data obtained reveal substantial benefits. Participants reported an increase in self-esteem, especially due to their newly acquired ability to read and write, as well as improvements in their economic opportunities, such as more efficient management of their small businesses. The project stands out as an essential tool for women's empowerment, providing these women with greater autonomy and recognition within their communities. Furthermore, the Okutanga Project contributes significantly to reducing social inequality in the region, highlighting the transformative power of education in the lives of these women and their families.
