: The disinterest of secondary school students in formal education constitutes a significant challenge in the city of Nampula, compromising academic performance and future opportunities for students. This study analyzed intervention strategies adopted in two secondary schools with the aim of understanding the factors that influenced school engagement. The research used a mixed methodological approach, combining quantitative and qualitative instruments. Questionnaires were applied to students, and interviews were conducted with teachers and principals, encompassing a sample of 122 individuals. This combination allowed the identification of perceptions, pedagogical practices, and institutional elements related to the problem. The results revealed that the school environment, teaching methodologies, and institutional support were determinants for student motivation. It was concluded that adopting innovative, contextualized, and student-centered strategies contributed to greater engagement. Future studies are recommended to deepen the impact of active methodologies and technological resources on increasing school motivation.
