Abstract

During street vending, zungueiras encounter certain events that trigger stress and which, if prolonged, have negative effects on their health. The aim of this article is to identify the determinants of stress in street vending, particularly for zungueiras in the city of Luanda, Angola. The method used was qualitative, in which zungueiras aged between 18 and 60 took part, in a sample of 32 zungueiras. We used individual interview scripts to obtain the data. The answers were transformed into text and organised into recording units, grouped into themes, identified by the Nvivo 12 software tool. The results of the data revealed that, in the context of the work of the zungueiras, there are events that provoke various causes of stress, among which the working conditions, tiredness and illnesses associated with the type of work they do in the zunga stand out. In this way, stress has negative effects on the physical and mental health of the zungueiras. As these women are the managers of the household, and given the vulnerability of their precarious living conditions and the working conditions of street vending, the study suggests the creation of a public policy project where these women can see their problems resolved for a good quality of life.
